Legendry director K Balchander who is fondly called 'sir' by many senior actors in the industry has been declared the 'Dada Saheb Phalke award' for his contribution to cinema industry. The Government of India on Friday declared this award for the year 2010 to him.The whole South Indian film fraternity expressed happiness over the declaration of award to such a gifted and respected film personality. K Balchander is Guru of the sorts to several big names in the industry. He introduced Superstar Rajnikanth, Kamal Haasan, Prakash Raj, Jayasudha and Jayaprada to cinema industry.
He produced and directed films and even Television serials.'Marocharitra' which was made as 'Ek Duje Keliye' in Hindi, 'Rudra Veena' with Chiranjeevi, 'Antuleni Katha' with Jayaprada and Rajnikanth are a few of his films that enriched Telugu cinema industry.He made iconic films like 'Apoorva Raagangal', produced biggest hit like 'Roja' etc all.
Biggest directors in the industry today like Vetrimaaran, Selva Raghavan et al come from his school of directorial team. He made successful TV serials which were bi-linguals. 'Marmadesam', 'Premi' etc.Superstar Rajinikanth who still considers Balachandar as his Guru acted in over 10 films under his direction in three languages. Kamal Haasan worked in more than 30 films with K Balchander. He is a living legend of South Indian cinema and many film personalities felt the award was long overdue to him.
