Prevention Detention law against piracy - JustTollywood.com News

Plans are reported to be underway to include the crime of video piracy under the stringent Prevention Detention Law, under which pirates can be arrested for their crime of producing piracy CDs and DVDs of films. In fact, the crime is planned to be curbed by the State government by proposing to "empower Sub-Inspectors of Police to conduct searches and seize pirated video cassettes and also declare video piracy as an organised crime."

As reported in the mainstream media, though over 5000 people have been arrested in relation to piracy, none of them were convicted by the courts for lack of evidence. This has ensured that the pirates go berserk producing thousands of piracy discs, thus endangering the survival of distributors, exhibitors and, even, producers, not to forget the livelihood of thousands of cine workers.
