Lata Mangeshkar gets ANR Award - JustTollywood.com News



The Akkineni Nageshwara Rao Award, instituted way back in 2005, will be given away for the year 2009 to Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary Indian singer of popular cinema. The Melody Queen will be felicitated with the award on the 1st of February in the city.
Dev Anand, Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi and Vyjantimala Bali, are the four film personalities, who have won the award since its inception. The fifth edition of the award has been declared to Lata. No one needs an intro of the greatness of Lata, who has sung thousands of songs and bhajans, over a period of more than six decades, for which she has already been featured on the Guinness Book of World Records even in 1974. And her yeomen services to the vocal world has been simply outstanding.
The thespian still sings, but rarely. The mellifluousness of her voice is eternal. Year after year, the adverts sponsored by the Government of India on the occasion of August 15 or January 26, can't resist using her voice singing the greatest of patriotic songs, to inspire love for the country among crores of Indians.The honour to Lata is definitely a proud moment.
