Ram Gopal Varma has so far been a person. Now, he is all set to become a publication. Yes, RGV has floated Rann Times, a news daily to be edited by him. The 10-page daily hit hundreds of multiplexes across the country, with news on politics, sports and of course, cinema. It's 3 lakh copies are all set to be read by the affluent and nouveau rich in metros and cosmos. If even just as a filmmaker, he could create so many controversies, will he be more aggressive and unsparing as an independent editor of an insignificant daily? If he so intends, he needs to do no more than pen down in his editorial (taking a leaf out of Bal Thakarey, whom he admires). The rest will be taken care by the mainstream media.
By the way, the daily derives its name, as it would already be clear to you, from his forthcoming film Rann, starring Amitabh Bacchan. The film delves on how what media writes and broadcasts today affects the common man in the country. So, will RGV take on media through this publication and sermon them on some ethics? Highly likely. He might even allocate good amount of space to explain about why our cinema doesn't need songs, why Agyaat was scary, why he thinks critics like Khalid Mohammad do not write reasonable reviews, and, of course, why he is failing to produce a movie every Friday, though he is able to do Editor's job (which is not his cup of tea) every day.
